Hi! I'm Kai, the lead designer at Geist. I first began my journey during Covid-19 lockdowns where I bought my first ever assembly kit for an automatic watch featuring a ST-2130 movement. Coming from a career as a mechanical engineer, I felt immediately drawn to it.

I went from servicing multi-tonne machinery to servicing parts weighing less than a gram. Over the next few years, I had the privilege of servicing watches from some of my favourite brands: Rolexes, Omegas, vintage Seikos, and Tag Heuers.

As my skills developed, I eventually moved into a design role at work. New opportunities arose as my skills developed. It was during this time that I set out to create something of my own: a watch that felt unique and filled a gap I believed the market had overlooked.

My favourite models of watches have always had design philosophies that are at odds with each other. Elegant and timeless, and unconventional but fun. My collection spans from a vintage Rolex 15000 that I restored myself, to a Mr Jones Ricochet, and everything in-between.

I was sat in a tiki themed bar whilst on holiday, thinking how I didn't want to go home the following day. With the idea to create something new already on my mind - it was here, surrounded by colour, character, and that feeling of escapism, that I felt inspired to create the Tiki.
